FUNCTIONS

The main functions of the Directorate General of Inspection are:-

To Study the working of the Customs, Central Excise Departmental Machinery throughout the country.

To suggest measures for improvement of its efficiency and rectification of important defects in it through inspection and by laying down procedures for smooth functioning.

To Carry out Inspection to determine whether the working of the field formation are as per Customs and Central Excise procedures and to make recommendations in respect to the procedural flaws,if any noticed.

To suggest measures for improvement in functioning of the field formations.

To monitor performance of field formation in key result areas through monthly technical report compilation in Customs and Central Excise.

To process rebate claims of Nepal and Bhutan in terms of Board's notification or a treaty.

To function as nodal officer for implementation of Rajbhasha (Official Language) Policy of Government in the field formations.

To function as Programme Manager office to implement Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Programme in Customs.

To conduct special studies as entrusted by CBEC namely various manual updation time to time, Result Framework Documents (RFD) formulation and monitoring etc.

To hold examinations for Customs House Agents under Customs House Agents licencing Regulation 2004.

To supervise preparation of manuals under Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Law and procedure.

To function as nodal office to implement tax payer services in field formations under project Sevottam.

To assist the Board in setting CBEC performance monitoring and evaluation system under Results Framework Documents(RFD).

Nodal office for implementation of Official Policy of Government.
